Litigation

Litigation is the act of bringing a lawsuit against another individual or company to address a perceived wrong or injustice. In a civil lawsuit, the matter may be resolved out of court, in a settlement between the opposing parties. If a settlement cannot be agreed upon, then the case will proceed to court. The first step of litigation is when the wronged party files a complaint against the opposing party with the court. A copy of this is sent to the other party, the defendant, who is given an opportunity to respond. At this point, a settlement may be reached. If not, the case moves into what is called the discovery process where each side shares information about the issues of the case through written requests through the court. Witnesses are interviewed through depositions and expert witnesses are found to testify about technical aspects or issues in the case.

Having a competent attorney to represent you in any legal matter will ensure that your rights are protected and that your case is thoroughly and effectively presented, increasing your chances for success. Your Williamson County litigation attorney can negotiate on your behalf for a settlement or represent you in court throughout the legal process, studying the merits of your case, researching legal precedents and court decisions, interviewing witnesses and carefully constructing the building blocks of a strategic defense or complaint.
